The Décor Tours team was incredibly lucky to see the Dior exhibition at the Musee Arts des Decoratif in Paris in September 2017. We have been on pins and needles waiting for it to come to the U.S. Well, it’s finally here. Trust us- if you are anywhere near Denver between now and March 3,2019, Dior: From Paris to the World is a MUST SEE! This will be the only stop in North America before it crosses the pond to London’s V&A, so cash in those frequent flyer miles and see this amazing retrospective.
The Parisian exhibit was so extensive taking most of the museum’s space; it really needed multiple visits to absorb it all. From accessories of every kind cataloged by color, petit mains making supple leather handbags to three stories of toiles in the atelier room, revolving tiers of red-carpet gowns that resembled wedding cakes, a complete façade of the House of Dior on rue Montaigne and a designer light show- it was a visual feast. After seeing the show, the DT team agreed that it was the BEST.MUSEUM.SHOW.EVER. Not a detail was overlooked. So, when we found it it was coming to the U.S. our biggest question was- how much was going to be able to be replicated in Denver. Our concerns seem to be waylaid, from the pre-show press we can say that it is definitely smaller, but the essence of Paris is captured.
What You’ll See
Dior: From Paris to the World surveys 70 years of the House of Dior’s; its enduring legacy and global influence. The exhibit consists of more than 200 couture dresses, as well as accessories, costume jewelry, photographs, drawings, runway videos, and other archival material, that traces the history of this iconic haute couture fashion house, its founder, Christian Dior, and the subsequent artistic directors who carried Dior’s vision into the 21st century.
It’s a chronological presentation that showcases pivotal themes in the House of Dior’s history focusing on how Christian Dior cemented his fashion house’s reputation and highlights how his successors, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri, incorporated their own design aesthetic.
