The April 2014 edition of High Point Market had loads to offer. Great ideas were everywhere- fresh color schemes, a floral frenzy and a trimmings comeback are just some of the things I loved at market.
The best part of High Point Market is always making new design acquaintances. This time I met and partied with the “Barstool Queen”, a Miami nurse turned wildly successful barstool designer (who says you can’t make money in a design niche!) to colorist extraordinaire- Maria Killam and hot ,new TV personality Dann Foley. There was a decidedly different attitude this market- not just upbeat- definitely energizing.

here is my bullet list of trendspottings and new products you won’t be able to live without.
It’s All Greek to Me
Greek Key trim spotted EVERYWHERE!

Chinoiserie Chic
Call it what you like – Chinoiserie, or “in the Chinese taste” is satisfying our love of exotic locales when decorating. These fanciful European interpretations of Chinese styles in tinteriors, furniture, pottery, textiles were made popular in 17th and1 8th centuries and it looks like it is back again. The style features gilding and lacquering, the use of blue and white , references to oriental imagery, asymmetrical forms, and Asian motifs.

Turquoise and Coral
Manufacturers seem to be in love with this scheme. We even saw it from two different manufacturers in the same building- making us think we were in the same showroom. It is seems to be the perfect color palette for all the chinoiserie popping up.

It’s all in the Details
Grosgrain ribbons, tapes, buttons were showing up all over the place.

Upholstered Furniture
Upholsters rejoice- we saw several companies introduce tables, desks and accent pieces that were upholstered in solids or patterns complete with nailhead trim.
Poufs, Tuffets and Ottomans take on new shape. Honeycombs Hexagons seem to be the favorite form; clustered together in place of a coffee table or pull them apart for extra seating. ( you have to have at least 3)
