A passion for design, an expertise in the complex world of window fashions and a fascination with what’s around the corner has led me to my current roles as an award winning designer, design educator, speaker and blogger.  I am so grateful to have been included in top Interior Design publications and media coverage throughout the years. Take a look at my  most recent editorial features and online articles below.

NEWS

As a designer, Deb works with some of the world’s best interior designers to craft couture window treatments and soft furnishings for their projects. One such project was with designer extraordinaire, Timothy Corrigan. Deb has worked with Corrigan on several of this long time client’s homes. Her Chicago home was featured in Elle Decor.

Any of you fortunate enough to have attended High Point Market last fall know what a special event it was. But even if you weren’t in attendance, we’ve brought the best of the show here for you. We turned to High Point Market’s Brand Ambassador, Deb Barrett, for a first-person report on market trends this year.

Deb first notes a lot of nature-inspired looks, silhouettes, textures and materials. “Definitely a softer, rounder, organic block, curved sofas, not a lot of straight lines,” says the noted trend strategist and design and market intelligence consultant.

The VIP HPMKT Experience 2.0, a new-buyer-focused, multi-day tour, will provide first-time attendees with a High Point Market immersion that includes education, direct engagement, a complimentary 5-day, hosted tour during Fall Market, and the opportunity to join an alumni network of designers and like-minded business professionals who are new to the High Point Market experience. The tour is a refresh of the original new buyer tour led by Barrett and Von Tobel from April 2015 until April 2018.

The High Point Market Authority (HPMA) has partnered with long-time Market veterans and industry experts Deb Barrett and Jackie Von Tobel for two exciting initiatives.  Both kicking off in time for Fall Market, Barrett and Von Tobel will assume the role of official High Point Market Brand Ambassadors and also bring back a revised version of their popular new buyer Market tour.

Podcast cover art-final 2016

Deb chats with LuAnn Nigara, of a Well Designed Business podcast, about going to market! Deb’s side project, Soft Design Lab specializes in bringing groups to world markets so that they have the best experience at market as opposed to walking in circles. This is a great time to listen to Deb with her expertise and knowledge on how to make the best of attending markets in general but we are going to be talking about High Point because it’s coming up soon.  How should you go about pre-planning? How is High Point divided? What advantages come with registering? Why would designers want to think about expanding internationally? Plus, much more….

Deb Barrett is pleased to announce that The Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC) has approved two more of Deb’s courses. Smart Textiles for the Modern Environment and A Guide to a Sustainable Design Business have both been approved for .2 CEU’s with a Health Safety nd Welfare designation.

Smart Textiles for the Modern Environment: A Guide for Architects and Designers

Fabrics and fabric selection has become more exciting and more complex with the new developments in fibers, finishes, construction, not to mention green options. By exploring the various new materials coming to market; comparing and contrasting their characteristics and properties and evaluating their performance and applications, more appropriate fabric specifications can be made for use in interiors and office environments. A discussion of textiles’ role in green design and sustainability including current manufacturing practices, technologies and identification and rating systems will supply the textile tools for making better informed decisions and wiser choices for more appropriate products and healthier lives. We’ll contextualize the knowledge and illustrate relevance through real world application examples.

A Guide to a Sustainable Design Business

The design landscape is in the midst of a C change and professionals must design a smart business as well as quality environments. The same principles of responsible sustainability can be applied to our business practices. This new age of design requires a commitment to create a sustainable business before we can create sustainable spaces. We’ll examine ethics and values, compare ideas and discuss perspectives that can shape our decisions. We’ll identify tools to be more productive, efficient and greener and that will ensure success. Finally, we’ll devise new strategies and technologies to streamline and strengthen your business and new approaches to enhance your credibility. Environmentally sound business choices made today help to ensure the future health of our business, designs and planet.

The courses have been extremely well received, in fact, the Smart Textiles presentation resulted in a series of articles for Office Insight magazine after rave reviews at NeoCon.  These two courses are great additions to Deb’s library of CEU accredited seminars, webinars and workshops. You can learn more about these courses at www.idcec.org or on Deb’s Seminar page.
