Portugal 2024

October 16 – 21, 2024

REGISTRATION OPENS MARCH 1st!

We have a wonderful (if we do say so ourselves) itinerary planned that combines a mix of design history (those tiles!), studio visits, workshops, and curated tours, all with time to explore both Lisbon and Porto.

If you’ve never considered Portugal as a design destination—please do! There is a distinctly contemporary arts & design culture, fused with a true respect for traditional methods, skills, and materials. And fortunately for visitors, Portugal remains affordable, making excellent food & wine, along with great shopping, reasonable even given the Euro to dollar exchange. Plus, Portugal was named Europe’s Leading Destination in the 2019 World Travel Awards, and was the featured destination in the NYTimes travel section recently!

Here’s a sneak peek:
Welcome Cava on historical boat tour of Lisbon
Create your own scent under the guidance of Claus Porto
Guided museum tours including Decorative Arts Museum, Stock Exchange, National Tile Museum
Inspiring creative experiences including studio visits and hands-ons opportunities with some of both city’s most famous artistic traditions—gold leaf, leather, cork, tile painting, embroidery, paper, and much more…
Indulge your senses—scent, taste, sight and touch— with visits to renowned artisans
Design destinations and insider access to showrooms and ateliers across Portugal
Special “small producer” Port wine tasting

*As-you-wish meet-ups for cocktails to review the day compare notes, share stories, etc.

Join us to explore the design history and design opportunities offered by Portugal. Add in the thriving contemporary design scene and you literally have dozens of excellent reasons to join us this Fall.

Lisbon is Portugal’s hilly, coastal capital city. From imposing São Jorge Castle, the view encompasses the old city’s pastel-colored buildings, Tagus Estuary and Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge. Nearby, the National Azulejo Museum displays 5 centuries of decorative ceramic tiles.

Just a short train ride away, we’ll spend a perfect three days in Porto. Located in the north of Portugal, the city of Porto has a rich history that dates to the Roman occupation of Iberia. This is a notable port city, situated on the estuary of the Douro River, where the river meets the Atlantic Ocean. From our luxury boutique hotel we’ll explore the thriving design scene in Porto and its environs. We’ll discover the city’s historic centre, Ribeira, considered World Heritage Site by UNESCO including the Clerigos Tower, Porto Catherdral and Palacio da Bolsa to marvel at the tile work. We’ll stop to enjoy a traditional Portuguese lunch in a quaint café nestled along the city’s medieval walls and discover Porto’s famous wines. Explore Portos’ rich Belle Epoque heritage through their iconic buildings and emblematic  cafes like the Majestic Cafe. You will enjoy an private charming boat cruise starting from Douro Marina. Follow in the footsteps of the wine merchants of Portugal on a classic “Six Bridges” cruise of Porto. Our signature design destinations will include Covet House’ signature townhouse, and Urban Mint.
