National Window Covering Safety Month is a nationwide campaign, co-sponsored by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Window Covering Safety Council (WCSC). The goal of this campaign is to increase consumer awareness of potential window cord hazards, as well as to urge parents and caregivers to only use cordless window products in homes with small children and sleeping areas and to replace all window coverings in the home made before 2001 with today’s safer products.
This year the industry hopes to bring the 2nd Provisional ANSI/WCMA Corded Window Covering Safety to ballot. We wish to take this opportunity to remind you to only use cordless window products in young children’s bedrooms and sleeping areas and to replace all window coverings in the home made before 2001 with today’s safer products.
According to information provided by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, since 1990, more than 200 infants and young children have died from accidentally strangling in window cords. Please use the information presented here to keep your children safe from potential window-cord hazards.
